On one of Abbie's rare days off, we trekked down to DC to finally visit the National Portrait Gallery. I think in an effort to be more "artsy," I'm consciously looking to other work in more traditional mediums, celebrated or otherwise, to learn not necessarily photography techniques, but lighting, mood, and composition. "Inspiration" is the word, I guess. Plus, the weather was perfect for a leisurely commute on the Metro. At some point, however, a mixture of exhaustion and artistic satiation inevitably takes over. I think that's why they suggest multiple trips to any one museum to allow the visitor to take it all in. It reminded me of our brief and somewhat disorganized Louvre experience—I don't remember anything except the Mona Lisa and this tiny figurine that was the only item from the Philippines. All the same, it was a nice change from the often mindless scrolling through Facebook photos and Flickr galleries. I'll try to take more trips out to other museums and welcome any recommendations. Artsy or not. |
