Group Portraits: Culture Shock DC

Dancers are a photographer's dream. Except perhaps for professional models, no one can move into poses better than a dancer.

I got to work with the awesome and talented group once again, this time right in the heart of DC. Needless to say, there was no twerking involved.

They're hosting the Culture Shock International Choreographer's Showcase this year and it'd be swell if you could show some support here.

Thanks again to the broski for the assist. And shout out to homegirl Kim for this ongoing collaboration!

A Visit to the National Portrait Gallery

9/26/2013

On one of Abbie's rare days off, we trekked down to DC to finally visit the National Portrait Gallery.

I think in an effort to be more "artsy," I'm consciously looking to other work in more traditional mediums, celebrated or otherwise, to learn not necessarily photography techniques, but lighting, mood, and composition. "Inspiration" is the word, I guess. Plus, the weather was perfect for a leisurely commute on the Metro.

At some point, however, a mixture of exhaustion and artistic satiation inevitably takes over. I think that's why they suggest multiple trips to any one museum to allow the visitor to take it all in. It reminded me of our brief and somewhat disorganized Louvre experience—I don't remember anything except the Mona Lisa and this tiny figurine that was the only item from the Philippines.

All the same, it was a nice change from the often mindless scrolling through Facebook photos and Flickr galleries. I'll try to take more trips out to other museums and welcome any recommendations. Artsy or not.

An Apple A Day

When the original iPhone first hit shelves in January of 2007, early adopters eager to get their hands on a piece of history formed lines in the wee morning hours at Apple stores around the world—lines that were as long as the tales about them.

It was on the 7 o'clock news, I remember watching with envy.

Not today.

It's a pilgrimage of sorts, a rite of passage, if you will, that takes the average consumer from casual user to Apple fanboy (or girl—although, if this morning's numbers are any indication, they'd be in the minority by a mile). It's an experience that you tell your children, and your children's children, and your children's children's children. One leaves a boy, and returns a man. It's certainly bucket list-worthy.

Just kidding. I already have an iPhone 5. I don't know who in their right mind would have the inexplicable urge to get out of bed at 4:30 in the morning just so they can be the first to call this latest iteration their own. I was just there to keep my brother and two friends company. And to buy a screen protector. And take pictures.

Okay, I wanted to be on the news.
